Hello KSKOers

Welcome to The Knowing Self Knowing Others Podcast episode 79! In this episode, we explore eastern spirituality and western management with Fabrice Desmarescaux. We talk about integrating spirituality into leadership development, 360-degree feedback for self-awareness, retreats for introspection and self-care, and balancing humanism with technological tools.

Check it out here or watch the video above!

Here are some top takeaways from my interview with Fabrice to help you grow and develop your self-aware leadership skills…..

1. Leverage 360-Degree Feedback: Use comprehensive feedback from colleagues, peers, bosses, and direct reports to get a balanced perspective of your leadership style and areas for improvement. The Leadership Circle and other 360-degree multi-rater tools can provide insightful data on your strengths and areas for growth. You can use my Self-Awareness Compass Quiz too!

2. Integrate Meditation and Mindfulness Practices: Regularly engage in meditation or mindfulness exercises to enhance your self-awareness and emotional regulation. Start with small time-spans, like a few minutes every day. Gradually increase as you become more comfortable with the practice and more familiar with the kind of meditation you enjoy the most.

3. Schedule Regular Retreats: Dedicate time for retreats to disconnect from daily demands and engage in deep self-reflection. Schedule a few hours every week for a mini-staycation retreat, and consider longer retreats during holidays to build up your practice. Focus on silence, solitude, space and engaging your soul to foster deeper introspection.

4. Use Assessment Tools: Employ personality profiling tools like the Enneagram to better understand your intrinsic motivations and behaviours. These tools can serve as conversation starters and guide your growth path, encouraging discussions with colleagues, managers, coaches and mentors for a deeper understanding of yourself.

I have a list of tools here that I keep up to date. Check it out….

5. Align Career with Personal Values: Reflect on whether your career aligns with your personal values and sense of purpose. Use tools and conversations with confidants or coaches to explore and make necessary adjustments to ensure your work is fulfilling and meaningful for you.

Growing your self-awareness is an activity not a passivity. What change will you make today to grow your self-aware leadership skills?
