Behaviour
The core concepts from the article are:
Be Aware of Your Behaviour – Everything you do and say sends a message. Great leaders act with intention, thinking ahead about the impact of their actions.
Adapt to the Situation – One size doesn’t fit all! Good leaders read the room, adjust their approach, and know when to change their approach.
Lead by Example – Your team is always watching! If you show up late, check your phone in meetings, or lose your temper, they’ll think it’s okay to do the same.
Spot (and Stop) Bad Behaviour – Favouritism, manipulation, and power plays? Not on my watch. Great leaders don’t just avoid bad behaviour—they actively challenge it.
Think About How You’re Perceived – You might be joking with a friend, but what about the people watching from a distance? Your leadership shadow stretches further than you think!
Your Actions Shape Your Team – How you behave sets the tone for your workplace. Be the kind of leader you’d want to follow.
Positivity is Contagious – Just like laughter spreads, so do attitudes. Stay upbeat and supportive, and you’ll create a workplace people want to be in and a reputation for an organisation people want to join.
What You Allow Becomes the Norm – If you ignore toxic behaviour, it becomes the culture. Set the bar high, and don’t let standards slip.
Own Your Mistakes – No one’s perfect! Being honest about your slip-ups and learning from them builds trust and credibility.
Culture = Everyday Behaviour – Forget fancy mission statements—your workplace culture is built by what happens day in, day out. Culture really does eat strategy for breakfast.
The Last Word
Leadership isn’t about titles, it’s about actions. The way you behave sets the tone for your team, shapes your workplace culture, and influences those around you. By being self-aware, leading by example, and holding yourself and others accountable, you create an environment where people feel valued, respected, and motivated. So, ask yourself: what kind of leader do you want to be, and what behaviours will you model to make that a reality?
