Top Takeaways Tuesday Review: How to be a Radiant Leader
The Knowing Self Knowing Others Podcast, Ep 50
Hello KSKOers
I had a great conversation with Kristen Lisanti in episode 50 of The Knowing Self Knowing Others Podcast.
This episode is also available on video
We explored navigating change, self-awareness, the power of mindfulness, diversity, and inclusion initiatives, and the importance of building a supportive leadership community through Kristen’s new Radiant Leaders’ Community.
Here are my five top takeaways from our discussion…
1. Recognising the Power of Self-Aware Leadership: Kristen’s emphasis on self-aware leadership highlights its pivotal role in driving effective organisational change. By understanding their own behaviours and the impact of those behaviours on others, leaders can create a positive and inclusive culture within their teams.
Reflection question: How can you enhance your self-awareness as a leader to create a more empowering work environment?
2. Embracing Mindfulness as a Leadership Practice: Through Kristen's experience in building and delivering a mindfulness-based leadership programme she shares the value of incorporating mindfulness into leadership approaches. By fostering clarity and intentional decision-making, mindfulness can be an enabler to leaders, helping them navigate change and complexity with greater resilience.
Reflection question: What steps can you take to integrate mindfulness into your leadership practice to enhance you decision-making and adaptability?
3. Building Supportive Communities for Transformational Leadership: The concept of the Radiant Leaders’ community illustrates the importance of peer support in leadership roles. In my research, the impact of effective leaders in amongst a peer group of ineffective colleagues was raise - and the barriers that creates to organisational success. By cultivating a community of like-minded individuals committed to transformational leadership, professionals can access resources, learning opportunities, and a network of support.
Reflection question: How can you create or contribute to a supportive community within your own professional sphere to foster growth and collaboration?
4. Personalising Diversity and Inclusion Initiatives: Kristen's approach to diversity and inclusion initiatives emphasises the need to make them personal, bespoke and meaningful. We need to guard against taking a perfunctory, one size fits all approach. Being individualised in focus can foster genuine inclusion and appreciation for individuality within the workplace.
Reflection question: How can you ensure that diversity and inclusion initiatives in your organisation are meaningful and resonate personally with employees?
5. Applying Self-Awareness in Leadership Practice: Kristen's guidance on putting self-awareness into action highlights the importance of translating introspection into tangible changes and decisions. You’ll already know that my model of self-awareness is made up of: reflection, recognition and regulation. These elements need to be approached as an ingoing cycle that moves you forward. By actively applying self-awareness in leadership practice, people can drive positive transformations and create an environment conducive to growth and inclusivity.
Reflection question: How can you translate self-awareness into actionable strategies to enhance your leadership impact?
