Feedback is essential, but not easy, neither to give nor to receive. As a leader, creating a feedback-friendly environment is a critical skills for building relationships with individual, developing relationships between team members and in achieving organisational effectiveness.
Inviting Feedback: Actively seek feedback. Don’t wait for the feedback juggernaut to mow you down. Treat it like a powerful tool for ongoing growth.
Reflective Practice: Integrate regular self-reflection into your routine to make it manageable, practicable and achievable
Trusted Colleagues: Build a circle of trusted colleagues who provide honest, constructive feedback to support your growth and development.
Future-Focused Feedforward: Ask what can you do more of, less of and do differently next time. Feedback about past things you can’t change isn’t helpful.
Selective Listening: Only take feedback from people whose opinion you respect. Avoid overwhelming and unsolicited input from the haters.
Psychological Safety: Foster an environment where people feel comfortable offering candid feedback without fear of backlash.
Diverse Perspectives: Encourage a variety of viewpoints to avoid creating echo chambers and strengthen critical, balanced thinking.
Direct Engagement: Frequently connect with your people on the frontline to get unfiltered insights into organisational realities.
Genuine Intent: Be sincere in asking for feedback; insincerity weakens trust and undermines your credibility over time. People can smell it a mile off!

By embracing these feedback habits, you can grow, build trust and create a culture of real openness. Seeking out honest perspectives strengthens your self-awareness muscle, bolsters psychological safety in your team and helps the whole organisation thrive.
